The piezoelectric effect of piezoelectric ceramic sheet is due to the spontaneous polarization in the ceramic. After these spontaneous polarizations are forced to be aligned by the polarization process, the residual polarization intensity exists in the ceramics.
If the external action (such as pressure or electric field) can change the polarization intensity, piezoelectric effect will appear in piezoelectric ceramics.
In addition, it can be seen that the polarization charges in piezoelectric ceramics are bound charges, not free charges, which can not move freely. Therefore, the phenomenon of discharge or charge in piezoelectric ceramics is the result of the release or supplement of the free charge on the electrode surface through the change of the polarization intensity in the ceramic.
